The Fragrance

Neo-Animism is a living perfume. Alive with meaning and with African oceans. This fragrance was created from two dominant notes: First, African ocean minerals, which capture the brand's relationship and experience of water. Ocean minerals are understood by our bodies and minds almost imperceptibly. Our nose can identify them. Then there's the smell of "green soap". It reflects the daily experience of African surfers growing up in southern Africa. Green soap is a common household soap found throughout the region and has the power to evoke memories for many people, bringing back the idea of home, mother, fresh laundry and the start of a new day.

The Brand

Mami Wata, a clothing and accessories brand, was born in 2017 to be a creative force for good in Africa, by producing and supporting African youth, African talents, and African manufacturers. Mami Wata is a symbol of African empowerment: Africa is reclaiming its history and culture, as surfing was invented on the shores of Africa.

From Madagascar to Morocco, from Liberia to Mozambique, Mami Wata is the African water spirit that appears in the form of a mermaid. She is a symbol of fertility, a protector of women and children, a guardian of marine creatures and natural environments.
