Musk Perfumes
Musk gives perfumes a sensation of clean, soft and warm skin. It is the note that creates the ‘bare skin’ effect: subtle, enveloping, and very close to the skin. Niche perfume houses use it on its own or combined with powdery, amber and woody notes. Discover Scentissime’s carefully curated selection of musk fragrances. To understand where this note comes from, read our article on the legend and reality of musk in perfumes.
Musk perfume, the skin-like effect
Musk of animal origin is no longer used in modern perfumery. Today, perfumers work with synthetic musks, often called white musks, and with plant-based materials such as ambrette seed. These materials leave an impression of clean linen and warm skin that extends the fragrance without weighing it down.
White musk, amber musk, powdery musk
White musk evokes cotton and fresh laundry, with a very contemporary transparency. Amber musk adds a resinous, enveloping warmth. Powdery musk joins the family of powdery fragrances and takes on a soft, almost velvety side. Each house doses these facets in its own way.
When to wear a musk perfume
Musk is a lasting base note: it stays on the skin long after the top notes have faded. Its discreet sillage suits the office, everyday wear and every season. It works as well on feminine as on masculine skin, and layers easily with another fragrance.
